The breath and the principles of Chi energy

I remember seeing a statement from Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Otto. Warbury that cancer cannot occur in tissues that are sufficiently oxygenated. Wow! Really?? But then I thought to myself that surely all tissue is oxygenated if we breathe, the oxygen attaches to the haemoglobin within the blood and travels to every part of the body? Too distracted by life and living I never gave any time to just sit with this and actually think on it. I just assumed that the body would do this simple job without taking too much notice and keep on doing it automatically.

But after years of seeing the impact of bad living on society and more personally, myself – bad diet, over consumption of alcohol and smoking, lack of exercise, working harder, relaxing less – the levels of depression, chronic illness, autoimmune conditions and types of cancer has rocketed. Maybe I shouldn’t have disregarded this statement so quickly. Maybe us humans have not been breathing properly? Maybe the simple way we breathe can actually affect us and our health much more than I had ever thought. And how we look after our body to ensure that the breath and the all-important oxygen is critical.

As part of my crystal journey; a large chunk I learnt about and use in my Crystal therapy is how the meridians are channels that carry Chi energy around our body. The life force of our bodies. There are other popular therapies and exercise (e.g. acupuncture and Tai Chi) that work to remove blockages within the meridians and help stagnant chi energy get moving again; relieving the physical symptoms of these problems.

It is the fundamental belief in Chinese medicine that if there is any stagnation of Chi energy physical manifestations will occur. Chi energy is directly affected and controlled by the mental and emotional state of the mind which means that in practises such a Tai Chi, anyone with calm discipline can sense and lead chi to physical blockages allowing us to ultimately master our lives.

The importance of breath becomes obvious when you understand that the breath is the source of Chi energy and the means through which the mind regulates Chi. It is the breath that provides the bridge between your physical self, your nervous system and your mind. When the mind is balanced the result is that all other vital functions of the body follow suit.

This has fascinated me. In my own practise I have learnt to breathe properly again – through the nose and deeply; and it has absolutely nourished me instead of depleting my levels of energy. I wanted to bring something that would help other people gain this great control and balance using their breath and Chi energy. In collaboration with my great friend, Jane of Southsea Pilates, I would love to introduce you to a movement and meditation workshop that focuses on Chi energy and the meridians within the body. The purpose is to teach a Chi energy flow exercise class (using the Chiball) and with the power of crystal meditation enhance your wellbeing.
