There seems to be a common theme of late with clients I am seeing personally and in workshops and they all equate to the belief that if you are skinnier you will be happier. And everything in your life with slot into place.
This is a myth. Your happiness will never be controlled by how slender you are or how much weight you lose. Sadly, it is a great marketing scheme for the diet industry which has been encouraged by society and social media. Remember when Kate Moss said “Nothing tastes better than being skinny”. Oh the everlasting damage this has caused both women and men……
It is an illusion. And I have a sacred rage that skinny people will be ruled out of having mental health problems because they are not overweight. And overweight people tend to be told if they lose weight everything will be better.
What about treating people with respect and understanding that life is hard? So many ways of dealing with stress, grief, shock and trauma is taught badly by other unhealed people. A pattern emerges that if we do not deal with the root cause of the unhappiness nothing will get better and teach each other good tools to deal with issues that arise in life!
How can you love yourself without attributing love to your clothes size?
Reminding yourself that you are not just your physical body…
Yes, exercise for fitness and feeling good.
Yes, eat nutritious food that energises your body.
But step away from the scale and stop looking in the mirror…..
Top Tip #1
Only have mirrors that show your face and minimise them around house. I removed the mirror from my bathroom so that I didn’t have to see my puffy and older looking face as I woke up!! Quite happy to get the mirror out for make up application and for when I am leaving the house to make sure I do not have a massive face of jam that I have missed. It can become an unhealthy obsession.
Top Tip #2
Do some heart healing….often it is the smallest of remarks that kills your confidence over the years. Work with pink crystals such as rose quartz, rhodochrosite, mangano calcite or pink opal; as well as green crystals such as jade, malachite, amazonite or green calcite. Journal deeper within about why your outward appearance is so important to you and why. Untangle your mysteries.
Top tip #3
Start practising a daily mantra that instils some core beliefs. It is all about faking it until you make it. Mantras can be said in your head, out loud; or the most powerful way is to yourself in that mirror you have allowed in your house. Do it daily before you step out that door. These should include:
I call my POWER back to me
I call my ENERGY back to me
I am brilliant
I deserve to love myself
I am safe
I am protected
I am whole
Why not give these things a go for a couple of weeks and see the difference it makes to your self-esteem? Let me know how you get on!!!
